Dragged Across Concrete (2018)

From the brilliant director of #BoneTomahawk and #BrawlInCellBlock99 is his latest endeavor, Dragged Across Concrete. This crime thriller is about two cops who get suspended for actually doing their job and descend into the criminal underworld looking to compensate themselves for all the good police work they felt they’ve done. However, they get more than what they bargain for when they finally go toe to toe with the bad guys they’ve been tailing. The movie is not for the impatient as most of the interspersed clever dialogue and witty banter take place in a car. This piece of cinema is uncompromosing in its pace to develop and establish characters and plot as it takes a while to simmer. The recompense is a final act that erupts into a rewarding culmination of compelling violence. Watching the film develop feels akin to being in a stakeout, which is a central aspect in this sepia-infused pulp thriller. Dragged Across Concrete isn’t for anyone who likes checking their phone every 10 minutes or so but rather for an audience that’s prepared to immerse into Zahler’s world of slow-burn crime thrillers.
