The Prodigy is a horror thriller about a gifted boy who displays advanced cognitive skills at a very early age. However, not all is as it seems as his gift starts to manifest its sinister and malevolent side, forcing his parents to take extreme measures. At first, this film seemed like the usual, run-of-the-mill creepy film starring a kid, but with a very compact runtime, the story develops a creepy and dark atmosphere quickly and leaves very little room for unnecessary clichés, such as parents overreacting and being overdramatic, as the mom and did in this film show just the right amount of surprise and worry but with a rational and realistic train of thought. The big jump scares were creative and original that might shock even a seasoned horror fan. The Prodigy is a superb film that manages to develop a genuine bond between mother and child then turn it upside down in the most sadistic way, making the viewer go from “Aww” to “WTF” in a minute.
